How to buy airtime and data on WhatsApp
Top up airtime or buy a data plan for any network, for yourself or someone else, straight from the chat.
You can buy airtime and data for any Nigerian network, MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile, without leaving WhatsApp. It works for your own number and for anyone else, and airtime is always at face value with no fee on top.
Buying airtime
- Open the Aurra chat and tap Airtime, or type
airtime. - Pick the network.
- Enter the phone number. It can be yours or someone else's.
- Enter the amount.
- Review the screen, then type your 6-digit PIN to confirm.
The airtime lands on the line almost immediately, and you get a receipt in the chat.
Buying data
- Tap Data in the chat, or type
data. - Pick the network and the phone number.
- Choose a plan from the list. The price you see is what you pay; there is no separate fee added at the end.
- Type your PIN to confirm.
For yourself or someone else
Both work the same way. Buying for someone else is a common move: a quick top-up for a sibling at school, a parent whose data finished, a friend stranded with an empty line. Just enter their number instead of yours.
What it costs
Airtime is exactly face value on every network, with nothing added on top. Data has no separate fee either; the plan price you see before confirming already includes the small markup, so what you are shown is what you pay. See the pricing page for the full picture.
Cable TV and electricity bills work the same way from the chat. See paying DStv, GOtv and Startimes and paying your electricity bill.
Common questions
Is there a limit?
Verified accounts move up to ₦500,000 per day in total across all transaction types. Individual limits also apply and are shown before you confirm.
What if the purchase fails?
If your wallet was debited but the top-up did not go through, the money is refunded automatically. Check your history on the dashboard for the refund entry.
